August Book Picks 2022
August Book Picks 2022- 8/3/22. The dog days of summer have arrived. One hot, sticky day after another in endless succession. The airy sundresses in my closet are all in rotation right now. Linen, a breathable and cool fabric, is showing up in my wardrobe choices more and more as our PNW summers grow hotter. It is miserably uncomfortable for a 49-year-old woman who is starting to wake up in night sweats these days, but I remind myself of our long, wet Spring that finally gave way late in June and grudgingly allowed the sun in. I am embracing the golden rays and soaking them in and storing them for the winter season ahead. Yesterday, I picked beans and berries in our backyard. It was morning and the sweat was pouring down my face and backside after a half hour, but I was happy to be standing under the blazing rays. It was also very gratifying to carry big bowls of beans and berries back to the house.
With the heat these days it’s necessary to work in the garden either morning or evening. During the day we seek the cool refuge of the house to carry on our businesses. I have been reading more during the afternoons when time allows because it is a quiet activity that doesn’t make me hot. I wanted some beachy reads or at least water type settings. So, I fell back on some favorite authors for this month’s picks and one new one.
