Autumn at Hidden Bluff 2025

Autumn at Hidden Bluff 2025. October 7, 2025.

Autumn decor is pretty green at our home this year. It isn’t even a Fall-ish sage green, but just plain grass green. I kind of fell into it unintentionally (no pun intended). It was the ivy that led the way. Recently, I found some frosted ivy stems that were perfect and could be used year-round, whether for Spring or Christmas. A bunch of them were ordered, and I waited. When they arrived, I put them around the house where they would add great texture. They worked so well that I ordered more for the mantle. Once on the mantle, I saw that the ivy would give a pumpkin patch look if mini white pumpkins were added. The effect was full of cottage charm, so I went from there with the white pumpkins to repeat the effect in other areas.

Ivy is the quintessential cottage greenery. It enrobes tiny cottages and brick manors alike, adding the proper old English patina that we all adore. Old college campuses with buildings smothered in ivy make an idyllic Fall setting as well. We naturally associate ivy with antiquity, so of course, ivy is noted for adding class and elegance. Ivy is also something we have loads of at Hidden Bluff- lots of. And although I am not growing it up the walls of our home, it did seem appropriate to have ivy as part of our cottage-style decor inside as well. Fresh ivy does not hold up well, so faux it is.

I kept up with my habit of adding Autumn touches to the existing decor. Using a decorative planter urn, I stacked white pumpkins with layers of ivy for a pumpkin topiary.

Ivy and pumpkins went into this planter urn as well.

I even filled this chamber pot with pumpkins.

Pumpkins with the ivy on the mantle are what got this started.

This French country-style ceramic planter is a new favorite! I found it here on Amazon. (Sometimes these planters are returned and offered at a discount price, which is what I purchased.) I then filled it with ivy and used real pumpkins to weigh the ivy down. Faux pumpkins tended to be too light.

These faux ghost berry stems were the perfect addition to the decor. Although I grow these in the yard, we went faux here because we don’t want our dogs eating the berries that drop. They were added to the ivy in the swan. I bought my ivy here.
