Creating a Lovely Bathroom Cabinet

Creating a Lovely Bathroom Cabinet. February 11,2025.
Walking into our bathroom is a delightful moment these days with the new addition of a bathroom cabinet that complements our new floor. It was a project I had been working on for a while, but like everything else took longer than I planned to get done. Life is always teaching me to manage my expectations, but in the end, it finally did get done. And it is now a feature that adds cottage style character to our bathroom. Carefully placed bath treasures such as infused bath salts sit alongside everyday items such as cotton balls and q-tips. Soft white Laura Ashley towels trimmed with dainty lace are folded along side small bars of soap in an apothecary jar. It has helped turn our bathroom into an old-fashioned retreat for the relaxation of the mind and body.

When we first moved to Hidden Bluff our very tiny linen closet very quickly became a space of jumbled up sheets and towels stuffed wherever they could fit. I knew this would need to change at some point, so when my mom offered me my late grandmother’s curio cabinet which had displayed her prized items (mostly books) I leapt at the opportunity, knowing it would be a perfect bathroom display cabinet and free up some much-needed space from our linen closet.

The cabinet is a lovely classic one with a wood body and a large glass door that makes it perfect for displaying items and is also helpful for keeping things tidy. When our possessions our openly displayed there is a tendency to try to keep them neat. I can’t say that I would want to look at a cabinet with a jumble of toilet items. A glass door is the accountability I need to keep things from getting crazy in there. Another advantage to using a display cabinet is seeing the items. Out of sight, out of mind is a reality and items are more likely to be used if seen.

Thankfully, the cabinet also matches our bedroom furniture as our bedroom opens directly into the bathroom area. Its classic style complements the rest of the room and blends seamlessly.

Make your own….
Today I am sharing some tips for making a lovely bathroom cabinet of your own. Use your own unique sense of style and creativity to make your bathroom area a welcoming retreat and a beautiful display while creatively freeing up other closet and/or cabinet space.

Tips for making a lovely bathroom cabinet:
- Be creative with furniture. The piece I chose is not a bathroom piece, but still worked perfectly for this anyway. It doesn’t have to be big either. Try a thrift store or yard sale for finding the right piece.
- Beautiful vintage crystal or glass jars are a wonderful way to display ordinary items such as q-tips and cotton balls.
- Small, framed art adds a special touch.
- Spa items such as loofah, body brushes and pumice stone are a welcome addition.
- Rose water and lavender water while not technically bath items make a nice addition. I spray these on sheets or even nightwear or towels.
- Infused bath salts are a must for the winter season.
- Bring bath pearls back! So pretty and luxurious for your bathwater!
- A vintage pitcher adds a nostalgic touch reminding us of how women used to cleanse their skin daily.
- Baskets of folded washcloths are inviting.
- Fluffy white towels deserve a beautiful place to sit!
- Fill in the cracks with dried or faux flowers. Use bud vases or place between items.
- Mix elegant and rustic for the cottage look.

Have a beautiful day!
