How to Style Baskets in Home Decor
These days it feels like it’s my season for home decor. Maybe it’s the empty nesting? Maybe it’s just that trends are aligning perfectly with my inner decor artist? Perhaps both? The charm of textures, botanicals, earthy materials, cottage, comfort, and elegance are just what I am looking for. It has been no end of fun to layer the living room with these. This summer, however, I will be backpedaling a bit to paint the whole interior of the house. And eventually, new floors are coming. A little at a time. Anyway, Hidden Bluff is gaining character each day and baskets are one of the ways of adding character. If you would like some ideas for how to style baskets in home decor (and there are a lot of cute ones out there) then keep reading.
Baskets have always factored into my home decor. I just love them. They are also practical- another big bonus that appeals to my practical part-German blood. And yet, it seems like now the baskets have never been cuter or more abundant or more varied. Every time I walk into a Home Goods store there is a cute new basket. It’s come to the point of self-restraint because overdoing it is a real thing. Balance is important too. However, today I wanted to show you some of the ways I am styling these adorable baskets around Hidden Bluff.
How to Style Baskets in Home Decor
Floral arrangement tucked in baskets say “home sweet home” all over them. There are a few of those at Hidden Bluff. Whether faux flowers, branches, foliage, or real flowers, baskets are a wonderful way to showcase them such as these fresh garden ranunculus and snapdragons in happy shades of pink and yellow that I snipped for a centerpiece here: (tip: make sure your vase is smaller than the basket)
Or dried pussy willow branches in a tall floor basket displayed below an absolutely gorgeous painting my artist mother did for me:
Or a simple arrangements of faux antique rose blooms in a cute basket here:
And home-dried eucalyptus here:
Incidentally, if you would like to know how to dry eucalyptus leaves to use in decor you can read about how easy it is here.
I also love to use basket to showcase beautiful coffee table books. Do you love coffee table books as much as I do? There is so much beautiful inspiration and artists to see out there! Here are my favorite coffee table books here that I pore over endlessly for ideas.
And what better way to store hobby materials than in a basket? This divided basket is perfect for my colored pencils and calligraphy pens in my office (which is coming along and am hoping to have photos of the finished room soon!)
But what about everyday functionality? Well, here in the laundry room the dryer sheets tucked in a storage basket make an attractive part of the display along with more dried eucalyptus.
It’s so much fun making practical, ugly things look cute!
And here in the bathroom is a basket full of essential supplies such as beautiful magazines, tp, and air freshener by the “commode”.
Extra hand towels for guests in our chinoiserie powder room.
Or a basket of luxurious Turkish bath towels rolled up and tucked in this great woven basket for guests.
Let’s not forget the kitchen! This thrift store rattan caddy was repurposed as a utensil holder for these spiffy olive wood utensils. Notice the most beautiful bottle of olive oil in the background? A Williams Sonoma find for blue and white kitchen lovers.
A basket is a charming way to store flatware as well! This is a recent photo from Easter displaying gold flatware tied with green-striped grosgrain ribbon. It was a sweet display of flatware!
And yes, this technically isn’t a basket, but this rattan wine bottle holder is sure a darn cute way to store kitchen linens for easy grabbing.
Hopefully, some of these ideas helped to inspire you in how to style baskets around your home today!
Have a glorious week!
