Living Plant Trend in Home Decor
Plants are always in style whether faux or living. However, some seasons one is more popular than the other, and right now it’s living plants. The succulent trend that started a couple of years ago continues to grow and is now spilling over into other houseplants of a tropical nature. Given the current popular focus on the environment I don’t see this trend dying anytime soon. Especially, as people are more and more wanting nature to be a big part of their lives. Houseplants are something I have never had much luck with which is funny considering my green thumb for outdoor gardening. However, that changed when I bought some succulents. A plant that won’t die if I forget to water?? That is something I need in my life. With the home decor living plant trend going on right now I decided to invest for our home.
Plants are taking a more prominent role in decor right now rather than being stuck in the background. Now we are seeing fun displays of different plants in a variety of pots popping up. I liked the monochromatic look of white vases in different styles with a variety of plants. Thankfully, some of these plants don’t need lots of light or water which makes care of them easy. Additionally, the casual look of the living plant trend and the plants themselves also work well with the international decor that is currently filling the stores.
The tropical plants ended up in our bathroom because there is more humidity in there. However, the others that needed minimal care ended up in our bay window sitting area. I like how the sun shines through the bay window on the new plants making it feel a bit like a conservatory- very elegant!
The Living plant trend- get the look
Plants really do warm up a room and add ambiance. Walking into a room with an assortment of plants feels a bit spa-like and calming. The look is really very simple. Start by deciding on a look you would like. Do you want different colors, styles, sizes, etc. of pots? Do you want them all the same? Where are you putting the plants? Decide on a theme and then start buying plants. You can get big, small, or a mix keeping in mind the conditions the plants need to thrive. Many only require minimal care, but some need more light or humidity. After this get the right size pots. A mix of pots tends to look best. Mixing in some pictures, candles, or other piece of art fills out the look nicely as well. Remember, the plants are the center stage of this look, so keep the other items minimal.
Maybe you have some nice faux plants you want to mix in with the living? So, why not? There is no hard and fast rule here that says you can’t.
Try giving your plants center stage in your decor for a change of pace.
