Make a Fresh Eucalyptus Wreath
Sometimes the most beautiful things are the most simple.
Make a Fresh Eucalyptus Wreath. April, 27, 2023.
We had some old tomato cages left by the previous owners of Hidden Bluff. Most of them were still usable, but one was deemed fit for nothing other than the trash, so I set it aside. It sat for quite a while- all through the winter. And then one day in a cleaning spree I went out to see about figuring a way to fit the cage in the trash can for pick up. What I discovered is that the rings pulled off fairly easily. When I was done, I had three perfect circle rings of heavy-duty metal. It seemed wasteful to throw them out. A thought came that they might work for diy wreaths, so I set them in my office.
Picking up some fresh eucalyptus from our local grocer, I arranged it around one of the rings and then used floral wire to affix it to the ring. It ended up being a very easy project- almost too easy for a lovely fresh wreath. Additionally, this wreath reused something headed for the landfill. Fresh wreaths are often quite expensive, and wouldn’t it be nice to have one for a dinner or party? And if you like, you could just let the eucalyptus dry for a dried wreath. Or experiment and try other green foliage and flowers. This project is quite forgiving and not one that needs to be perfect. My favorite part about this is that it doesn’t look perfect! It has a natural woodsy charm that lends itself to cottage style.
Let’s get started!
Make a Fresh Eucalyptus Wreath
Note: if an old tomato cage isn’t handy wire wreath frames are available at craft stores.
One metal ring
2-3 full bunches of eucalyptus
Green floral wire (gauge 22)
Wire cutters
Start by arranging your eucalyptus stems as you would like them to look. Take your time and trim/arrange as needed.
When you have it just the way you like start snipping 3-inch wire pieces. You can eyeball this.
Making your way around the wreath affix it to the ring. Pay attention to securing the ends of thicker stems as these will stick out if you don’t.
It isn’t necessary to wrap wire around all the branches. For a more natural look wrap the branches closest to the ring and underneath.
All done! Enjoy your lovely wreath!
Have a beautiful day!
