Mossy Heart Decor Piece
“I feel as if I had opened a book and found roses of yesterday sweet and fragrant, between its leaves.” – L.M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island
Mossy Heart Decor Piece, January 23, 2023
Pink roses are on my mind these days. It was probably the winter rose care that started it. I have been adding touches of rose decor throughout Hidden Bluff- mostly pink roses. There is a bouquet of small pink roses that are currently sitting in a vintage white pitcher drying- sweet and charming and dainty. I wanted to make something with them, so this mossy heart decor piece was created to pay further homage to the beloved pink rose. This piece is very appropriate for Valentine’s Day, but also lovely to keep out other seasons as well.
My mom had made me a hanging mossy heart years ago, so the idea was borrowed from her. It is simple, natural, and pretty to make. The materials are things an artist may keep on hand already. It also uses an old candlestick holder. The steps are below and pictured in photos as well.
Supplies Needed:
-Wire (I used a thick craft wire. Just get something sturdy but pliable for shaping. I used gauge 10).
-Moss
-Hot glue gun
-Old candlestick holder
-Pliers for crimping
Get supplies together.
Shape wire into desired heart shape as shown in photo. It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Wrap end piece of heart around “stem”.
Crimp the middle of heart on top into a “V”.
Coil the end of stem into shape large enough to fit snuggly in candlestick holder.
Fit coil into candlestick holder as shown.
Your heart should look like this.
Using hot glue begin attaching moss around the heart.
Your heart is ready decorate! I hot glued dried pink rose buds on mine.
I put more moss at its base in the candlestick holder. Enjoy your mossy heart!
Have a beautiful day!
