New Lemongrass Picnic Candles
There’s nothing like a swarm of bugs to ruin an outdoor meal. You’ve prepped and prepared a beautiful meal for your guests to enjoy in the outdoors only to spend most of the time swatting bugs away. We all know that bugs are a necessary part of the environment, but let’s face it: sometimes there are too many of them. This is especially true when we throw a party and the hornets and flies decide to crash it en masse.
We have tried the usual tricks of food covers, keeping the buffet table indoors, and citronella candles, but none of it really works for us. On one occasion I decided to mix things up and try lemongrass candles instead. Truthfully, I was out of citronella essential oil and only had lemongrass oil- lol! So, I made strong lemongrass candles and set them out hoping for the best.
Later that my hubby brought up what I hadn’t noticed- we had no bugs at our party! He commented that the candles worked, and he was right. Thinking back there was no fly swatting or angry hornets hovering over us. Even the outdoor dessert table stayed bug-free! The event inspired me to create portable little lemongrass candles to tuck away for a small picnic for or an outdoor dinner for two. These adorable candles are made with vegetable-based soy wax and plenty of lemongrass essential oil. Personally, I far prefer the delicious Asian scent of lemongrass over citronella anyway. I also think lemongrass works far better as I have made citronella candles before.
You can find these new candles here for purchase. They make great little gifts on their own or as part of a picnic-themed gift basket for a wedding gift. Buy one for yourself and tuck it away for a romantic outdoor dinner.
What do you think- lemongrass or citronella or neither? What works for you to keep bugs out of your picnics?
