How to Sew a Soft Cube Ornament

Homemade 3-inch soft cube ornaments for your tree or decor!

Equipment

  • scrap fabric
  • Soft stuffing
  • Piece of cardboard
  • scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Pins

Instructions

  • Make a 3.5 square out of cardboard.
  • Using the cardboard piece as your pattern, cut out 6 squares.
  • Take 4 squares and pin them together side by side.
  • Sew the pinned sides together as shown in photo. I used 1/4 inch seams throughout this project.
  • Take a fifth square create an “bottom” to your cube by pinning your strip of cubes all around the square. Take care to match corners when pinning.
  • Sew this square on.
  • Join the open sides together and sew shut.
  • You should now have a box with no top.
  • Now pin 3 sides of the last square to the remaining opening on your cube.
  • Sew 3 of the sides on.
  • Using the unsewn side, turn the cube inside out.
  • Fill with the cube form with soft stuffing. I used stuffing from an old chair cushion.
  • Pin the remaining opening shut, tucking in raw edges.
  • Sew the opening shut.
  • Your cube is now complete! Decorate as you wish!
