A Homemade Stocking Ornament Tutorial
And the stockings were hung by the chimney with care , in hopes that St. Nicholas would soon be there….

A Homemade Stocking Ornament Tutorial. November 20, 2023.
Stockings are one of my favorite parts of Christmas. All those surprises on Christmas morning! When my hubby and I had kids of our own we just went to town on stocking stuffers. There was something about a stocking full of mini gifts and candy that is so much fun. It was great joy to look for little treats and games to fill the stockings with. Our kids loved the all-day lollipops they found in them! Stockings have a long been a tradition at Christmas time and have a well-established place in the holiday decor. And since stockings are such a Christmas essential, I wanted to share a homemade stocking ornament tutorial with you.
This is a very simple sewing project, so use whatever fabric you like. I used upholstery velvet. You might notice I kept the edges plain on mine. This is because I prefer a rustic looking shape to my stockings. However, you can trim the tops of your stockings up fancy if you like with things such as tassels, fur, or sparkles. Finish your edges however you like. This tutorial just gives you a base to start from.
Make a lot of stockings to decorate your tree with or make a few to hang around the home on doorknobs, create a garland, etc. For a festive look use them to hold the silverware at the table. The sky is the limit on these! Keep reading below for the tutorial. Happy sewing!
