One of the frustrating aspects of the decor area of social media is the constant bombardment of “latest new things” one must own. The rapid growth of online shopping has just made it that much more tempting for the decor artist. Finding a space between enjoying the visual inspiration and realizing what is being presented isn’t necessary to own is important or your house may end up bulging with decor. Being a decor artist who loves to create new looks and keep up with trends within my own niche makes me an excellent target for all these ads (but for the grace of God go I). Despite the challenge of materialism, one of the things I hope people who read this journal can walk away with is the inspiration to use what they have.

Fresh eyes are important and when you’ve looked at the same dishes for years that may be challenging. This is where visual inspiration is valuable because it gives you a new way to frame the things you have. And for an extra challenge why not create an un-Christmas Christmas table?

And today’s Christmas table is one of those ideas. There is no real Christmas theme. No trees, cedar, Santas, or even poinsettias. Just a simple table created from digging through the china cabinet. And on a side note, this is one of the new trends I like- getting away from specific seasonal decor and working with the decor we have. (My husband will be thankful for less totes of Christmas decor.) And if you need ideas for a basic decor inventory see the list below.

Decor basics I keep on hand:

• Realistic faux flowers, greenery, and moss.
• Classic style linens meaning tablecloths, napkins, and runners (I stay away from ultra-trendy on this and go updated classic when investing)
• Vintage style candle holders
• Elegant vases
• Baskets and other wovens
• Wood trays
