April 2022 Book Pick
April tends to be a month of negative connotations. April Fool’s Day and April showers don’t exactly inspire. It seems that less than two weeks after the start of Spring we would want to keep the positivity going with prettier sounding days like May Day. On the flip side April Fool’s Day provokes much-needed humor and April showers do bring May flowers. It’s all in the presentation, I guess. And while our April showers are going, I decided to pick a garden-themed book for April 2022 Book Pick. Last night, I just finished the sweet childhood classic, “The Secret Garden”. This book with all its childhood innocence conveys the deep love and healing power of a garden. Because of this garden books are a joy to read as people who love gardens tend to be kindred spirits. We understand each other. We understand our love of the soil and what it brings forth.
Well, the Secret Garden is not my book pick for the month as I just read it, but I did pick up this interesting looking title, “The Botanist’s Daughter”. There seems to be a literary trend with dual timelines and stories lately and this book is another one of those. We have characters connected not in person, but by purpose- in different times. The Botanist’s Daughter tells the story of two women botanists, a century apart and their search for a rare flower with unique powers. Flowers, mystery, female heroines- I’m sold. And it has a pretty cover! To be honest though it has been sitting on my kindle for a good while, and I am now getting to reading it. April sounded like a good month to pull it out.
