Decorate Easter Eggs with Dried Flowers

When Monday starts off great it is a good sign for the week ahead. I began the day making a big batch of soap. Next, the veggies were planted in the garden. And now, I am sipping a cup of Cherry Blossom Green Tea while writing about flowers. Spring flower season has arrived, and I am starting to haunt the local nurseries with a lengthy flower wishlist for the cutting garden at Hidden Bluff. However, my weekend flower purchases were merely pink snapdragons and a Meyer lemon tree as stock is slow to come in. The Ranunculus was out-darn! In the meantime, to appease my flower love I decorated these wooden eggs for Easter. Aren’t they pretty? Real dried flowers are used in this project. You’ll find it’s easy to decorate Easter Eggs with Dried Flowers!

Flowers are something I can’t get enough of, and lately I have been experimenting with dried flowers. Dried and pressed flowers are easy to get on Etsy or Amazon. Their dainty and papery appeal adds charm to a project such as notecards, place cards, etc. My favorite are the pink and white flowers such as cherry blossom or Larkspur. In today’s project I glossed them on wooden eggs. However, something I learned is that not all dried flowers and greens hold their color when painted with modge podge or gloss. Cherry blossoms go brown as do ferns when covered with gloss. So far, the Larkspur both pink and white held up well. Pink hydrangeas also keep their color when glossed. Read on for how to do this cottage-style project.

It is a good idea to start by coming up with an arrangement before gluing it to the egg. Decide how you want it to look. When you have an idea take your foam brush and apply some Modge Podge or gloss to the area you want to place the flowers. Next, stick the flowers on there and press down. Gently apply gloss with foam brush on top of flowers and sides of egg to coat. Let egg dry and then gloss back side.

Tips:

A couple of layers of gloss helps keep the flowers more secured on the eggs.

Be gentle with brush. It is easy to pull off delicate petals while glossing.

Hi-gloss mediums give a nice effect.

Test flowers used first to make sure they hold up to process. You can do this on a piece of paper.

Paper-thin botanicals works best for this project. Thicker is harder to secure in place.

Use the tweezers.
