August Book Picks 2021

august book picks 2021

It’s been a few weeks since I sat down to write. July was a whirlwind of events that included buying a house and getting ready to welcome our nephew to stay with us for a few months. As much as I love writing, my mind was going too many directions, so my muse took a holiday. But August is here and in a few days we will move to Hidden Bluff. There I will work on transforming our new home into our own French/English cottage. In the meantime, we are enthusiastically scouring online for vintage furniture for our new home. And I spend evenings poring over decor magazines for ideas. We are also getting ready to have an 11 year old in the house again after a long hiatus in child-rearing. Thankfully, my muse decided to return, and I don’t feel so squirrel brained. So, today I want to share my August book picks 2021 with you.

Unrepentantly, I adore British authors. There is just something so elegant in much of British literature, and Rosamunde Pilcher is no exception. Pilcher is a beloved British, romance author who is best known for her novel, The Shell Seekers. Her complex characters, internal conflicts, and storylines left me wanting to read other books she wrote. I ended up settling on The Empty House and The End of Summer. Both of these titles loudly proclaimed, “perfect summer reads”.

In The Empty House we meet Virginia Keile, a young widow, who seeks solace and healing at a seaside cottage in Cornwall with her children. However, when she arrives, she learns her first love is there wanting to try at happiness again.

The End of Summer takes us to a peaceful Scottish estate where Jane has been summoned from the United States to her childhood home in Scotland where she is inconveniently reunited with her former love. Already married, Jane begins to wonder if she married the wrong man.
