Autumn-Inspired Quick and Easy Donuts
The quick glance at the Pillsbury biscuit dough in the store is responsible for today’s recipe. I was busy shopping, and a chance quick glance found my eyes setting on the refrigerated biscuit dough which brought to mind this long-time recipe for quick and easy donuts. It is a fun one for adults and kids alike that will bring smiles. My nephew arrived home from school and saw the batch of these I made for this post and was jumping around yelling yippee! He was quite excited to try them and now wants me to make them again. What is nice about these is that you can get creative and make different kinds of donuts.
Do these taste just like donuts? No, of course they don’t, but they are a good and tasty substitute for the real thing and with the toppings you’ll find yourself enjoying them just as you would a donut! Now for the recipe- cheers!
Quick and Easy Donuts
Makes 8 donuts.
1 can of refrigerated biscuit dough (I used Pilsbury’s grand biscuits)
Vegetable oil for frying
Begin by opening a can of biscuit dough and breaking them apart and setting them on a floured surface. Using a 1-inch circle cookie cutter or other small round object for cutting, make a hole in the middle of each biscuit. Fill a large skillet approximately 1/2-inch deep with vegetable oil and heat over medium. When oil is hot place biscuits in the oil and cook until golden brown on each side, flipping halfway through. Using tongs remove the donuts from oil and set to drain on paper towels. But wait, don’t throw away the holes- you can cook those too for donut holes!
Topping ideas
Maple icing (see below)
Pumpkin Spice Sugar (see below)
Maple icing: melt 2 tbsps. of butter and add 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar as well as 1/2 tsp. of maple extract. Stir in enough cream to make a pourable icing. Drizzle on warm donuts.
Pumpkin Spice Sugar: In a small bowl add a handful of white sugar and a pinch of pumpkin pie spice. Combine well and coat warm donuts in it.
Have a beautiful day!
