Easy Clean Ranch Dressing

Sometimes reworking old favorites into “cleaner” versions is tricky. It’s amazing how used to processed food filled with artificial flavors we’ve become. One of those favorite foods is ranch dressing. Ranch is not only a dressing; it’s become its own institution in this country. I will never forget one of my first jobs years ago at a retirement home when a resident asked me to put ranch on her cherry jello. UGH! I seriously thought she was delusional and that I would get fired if I did so. She insisted, so I put one tiny little dot on top, but no, she wanted me to pour it on. I was sure I would be in trouble with the boss. As it turns out LOTS of residents wanted ranch on their cherry jello- gross! In any case, this example shows how much we love our ranch dressing.

Since ranch is also one of my favorites and is also a favorite at parties and events, I played around with creating a cleaned-up version. To my surprise it turned out great! This version doesn’t have a drop of mayonnaise! This ranch dressing has buttermilk and Greek yogurt along with some seasonings. It is also quick and super easy to make and tastes very flavorful and tangy. One thing I strongly recommend in this recipe is not to run it through a blender. I tried using a blender a couple of times and it liquifies the ranch dressing. Additionally, putting it in the fridge overnight didn’t work to thicken it back up. So, simply stir or whisk the ingredients together.

Easy Clean Ranch Dressing

Makes about 1 cup. Don’t use blender for this- see above notes.

1/2 cup of buttermilk

1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt

1 stalk of minced green onion

1/2 tsp. of sea salt

1/2 tsp. of garlic powder

A couple of dashes of black pepper

1/2 tsp. of dried dill

1/2 tsp. of dried parsley

Combine everything in a bowl and whisk together. Serve or store in the fridge. Super easy!
