Enchanting Autumn Table
I love the autumn- that melancholy season that suits memories so well. ~Gustave Flaubert
Enchanting Autumn Table. Sept. 29, 2022.
The golden glow of the afternoon sun has left our living room and won’t return until next Spring. A moody light is now creeping into our days. Dark days are something I have been shunning for a few years now. As I have gotten older the craving for bright natural light has grown stronger. The warm cheerfulness on my being feels good. So, the sun has become a good friend in recent years. However, it wasn’t always this way. For years, I loved the dark days of fall, and their enveloping nature were a comfort. But our bodies and needs change, and so did my need for light. Yet, while decorating for autumn and this year and grumbling over the lack of light a flash of insight came: I needed to lean into the dark days again just like I did in childhood.
So, instead of fighting against the dark season the autumn table was set to match the dusky evening sky and celebrate it. Out came the rich velvet, gold, candles- a moody setting for a moody season. But moody can be elegant. And what better way to celebrate Autumn with moody elegance.
Enchanting Autumn Table
An old velvet curtain was turned into a warm sage table runner simply by cutting the curtain in half. Velvet never disappoints with its effortless sophistication. It is always a timeless fabric. And I never grow weary of running my fingers over its soft, even pile.
Candle displays are another learning curve for me right now as I am learning to branch out and dispense with perfectionism. Lots of ornate glass votives cluster around the autumnal dried flower arrangement. Intermixed are golden candlesticks with rolled beeswax candles. No real symmetry exists in the arrangement, yet it works out perfectly.
Acorns, dried hydrangeas, and fall leaves gave the rich elements the rustic touch. A dried flower arrangement becomes the centerpiece. And all around scattered faux fall leaves give the impression of dining outside on a fall evening under a garden arbor. I hand painted resin acorns gold and mixed them in the display.
The whole arrangement felt enchanting- a bit of Autumn magic in the twilight hour to charm the spirit in the dark days ahead.
Have an enchanting evening!
