Homemade Window Wash

Homemade Window Wash

Homemade Window Wash. September 19, 2023.

Fall cleaning is in full force at Hidden Bluff. Last week every single drawer and cupboard in our kitchen was emptied and wiped out. It took two days to do this, but the level of satisfaction I felt when done was enormous! Kitchens need to be periodically deep cleaned or buildup occurs. And once this buildup gets going it is hard to get off. It is one of the reasons I wipe down my cabinet doors weekly. This simple task takes only a few minutes a week and keeps the greasy buildup from starting and accumulating. But the kitchen is done now, and my attention has turned to the windows.

Homemade Window Wash

The windows needed a good washing for sure! And there was no reason to go buy window wash as it is easy to make. For homemade window wash I turned to Heloise, a housekeeping columnist I used to read while growing up. She had great tips and recipes that have passed the test of time for cleaning including today’s homemade window cleaner which I used for washing the windows outside. Windows can be a pain to clean, but using the right tools and wash makes the job a lot easier. And before you know it you will be enjoying sparkling clean windows!

How to Wash Outside Windows with Homemade Window Wash:

  • Pick a sunny day to wash windows. This helps you to see any missed spots better!
  • Attach your pole to window scrubber if needed.
  • Now dip your scrubber into the window wash and soak the brush. Scrub the window well. Don’t forget to pay attention to window edges!
  • Now take your dry squeegee and drag it down the window on strip at a time, or you can go side to side.
  • Use your dry cloth to catch any drips around edges. A good squeegee and firm stroke will easily remove all water and leave behind sparkling dry glass!
