Fall Decorating at Hidden Bluff 2021
My favorite month has arrived- October! There is no other month in the PNW that is as vivid as October and moving back to the city means getting to enjoy more of it. Additionally, another nice surprise popped up in our town- lots of apple trees! One thing that has enraptured me in the short time since moving to the little gorge town of Troutdale is the abundance of apple trees. There are no orchards here that I have seen, however, many people have planted them in their yards. It is endearing and nostalgic not to mention that it adds an eye-pleasing rustic touch to the small town. All these apple trees add a French country touch and inspired the fall decorating at Hidden Bluff 2021.
This year was a departure with a red-focused color theme. It is hard not to be inspired by red when October hits and the trees are ablaze with vibrant red leaves and the last of crimson apples dangle from trees. Red is also a color that carries into the Christmas season. Apples became the theme for the season and for fall they are used with other fall colors. For Christmas the apples with likely be paired with champagne gold. but that may change. Right now, it’s autumn.
Fall Decorating at Hidden Bluff 2021
At Hidden Bluff there is a creamy brick wall with fireplace and mantle as a decorating background. So to emphasize cottage style bright colors are added to the white backdrop. The color palette is a break in tradition as analogous colors deep red, vermillion, and orange were used with warm greens as neutrals. My palette was chosen from one of my favorite color resources, Design Seed. It is one of their October palettes, and while it’s not an exact match it helped when choosing items to put out. This palette also helped keep the “fall” in the red theme without looking too Christmas too soon.
An assortment of faux apples, pumpkins, and pears lay on top of golden green autumn eucalyptus. Mixed white rustic candlesticks add height and worked as pedestals for a couple pumpkins.
A gorgeous basket I found thrifting filled with dark red apples pairs nicely with the white pumpkins. These are put on the fireplace shelf below along with scattered faux fall leaves.
Red and cream checked ribbon from the dollar store was a nice touch for the wreath and pillow. For the wreath I added some faux apples to a standard eucalyptus wreath along with the ribbon. And for the pillow I de-wired the ribbon and tied it around a velvet pillow. De-wiring the ribbon helps the ribbon to set more naturally.
What I like about this decor is that it will carry us through the whole season and with a few changes, Christmas as well. It is bright, cheery, colorful, optimistic and hopeful with is fruitful theme which is important.
Have a beautiful day!
