Homemade Candy Cane Liqueur

 candy cane liqueur

Today’s idea for a Christmas diy is a fun one! Last week, I got the idea to put a bunch of candy canes in vodka to see if it would make some sort of homemade peppermint Schnapp’s. Well, it wasn’t quite peppermint Schnapps’s, but the resulting bright pink liqueur was exceptionally pretty and delicious! The whole experiment was successful and proved to be incredibly easy. Additionally, there will be a holiday, dessert drink idea to use this for. I recommend making one homemade candy cane liqueur to give away this holiday season and one for yourself, because it is fun.

Before we get started, let’s talk about the sweetness factor. What I learned is that you can make this liqueur as sweet as you want to. I started with sixteen mini candy canes to one cup of vodka with good results, but I like liqueurs to be sweeter, so I added more candy canes. Twenty-five mini candy canes to one cup of vodka ended up being the perfect ratio for me. However, this recipe, like many others on this blog, is versatile. So, if you like, play with the recipe to get your perfect ratio. And now for the fun part- homemade candy cane liqueur!

Ingredients

  • 25 mini candy canes
  • 1 cup vodka

Instructions

  • Pour 1 cup of vodka into a glass jar with a lid.
  • Next, unwrap the mini candy canes and add them to the vodka.
  • Put the lid and seal shut.
  • Shake around and then let sit. I let it sit overnight, but it only takes a couple of hours for the candy canes to dissolve.
  • And that is it- you are done! Enjoy your bright and pretty pink candy cane liqueur! Store in the refrigerator.
  • Double or triple as desired.
