Easy Onion Dip- No Cook or Soup Mix
We are kind of bummed this July 4th. With COVID rates spiking again and things still being so unsettled we obviously won’t be having our annual BBQ. We love this event, so it is a big disappointment this year. However, our family will rally to enjoy it anyway because that is what we do. And of course, we will still BBQ. Hopefully, it won’t rain. There has been a lot of that this year as we are still waiting for summer to really get going. In any case, the meal will be scaled down, but still a festive one with traditional BBQ foods like this easy onion dip I make.
Dips are one of the most fun and easiest ways to enjoy food not to mention less clean up involved. They are also very versatile and don’t have to be served with chips only. Dips are a favorite food of mine, especially bean dip. A hot casserole of bean dip with melted cheese on top plus a bag of good tortilla chips is my idea of heavenly comfort food! But today’s post is for a simple and flavorful homemade onion dip that can be made ahead of time and is perfect for your backyard BBQ. Onion dip lovers will enjoy this! Additionally, there is a delicious veggie dip option below.
easy Onion Dip
3 oz softened cream cheese
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 tsp. of vegetable bouillon* (adjust depending on how salty your bouillon is)
4 tbsps. of dried, minced onion
Combine all ingredients until smooth and let sit in the refrigerator for a half hour. Serve with veggies, chips, crackers, etc. Can be made ahead of time.
*I use vegetable bouillon paste, but granules should be fine as well. It might be helpful to dilute granules in a tablespoon or two of hot water.
Veggie dip option:
Add 1 cup of minced veggies to your dip. For this option I take some carrots, cucumber, and red pepper and run them through a food processor. Process enough to have about a cup of minced veggies. Stir minced veggies into the dip for a colorful veggie dip (pictured below).
Enjoy your week and have a beautiful day!
