How to make Boiled Apple Cider. October 29, 2020.
Today’s recipe is versatile and is useful as a flavoring in cooking. Apple cider is a popular flavor in the Fall, which has many uses in baking and cooking. Apples pair so well with savory ingredients and are so versatile. Boiled apple cider kicks it up a notch. One of the best ways I have found to harness the apple cider flavor is using the simple reduction method. The result is a highly concentrated apple cider with a thick, saucy consistency that is excellent!

And how should you use this boiled apple cider? Use it as a flavoring. For example, add a big tablespoonful to flavor your homemade salad dressings. Or add it to marinades and sauces. Drizzle it on top of oatmeal. This cider would be excellent as a flavouring in frosting for a spice cake or in a poultry marinade. Try using it as a meat glaze for an autumn dinner. Add it to anything you want to flavor with apple cider and enjoy!

Boiled Apple Cider

Ingredients
- 1 jug of good apple cider (I used a 2.63 liter of honeycrisp apple cider)
Instructions
- Pour the whole jug of apple cider into a large pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer or boil gently until reduced to 2 cups. This will take a few hours (3-4).
- When about 1 quart of apple cider remains, start measuring the cider periodically as it continues to cook until you reach 2 cups.

- Remove from the stove and let sit for a few minutes.
- Pour into a heat-safe container and let cool completely.

- Store in the fridge.
- This will last for months in the fridge.
- Use as a flavoring or glaze for meats, vegetables, salad dressings, desserts, etc.
Notes
- Store in the fridge.
- May cool to a stick, honey-like consistency. To soften, microwave for a minute.
