Being able to breathe again is lovely. The past few weeks have been bursting full of work to the point of daily showers becoming a luxury. To be transparent, routine, orderliness, cleanliness, and errrrr, hygiene are all kind of important to me. My internal stress level sky rockets without the sense of order. Well, our August was spent trying to run 2 businesses while moving. Additionally, we were launching an Airbnb house which was far more work than anticipated. And to top things off, my husband and I jumped back into the active parenting arena when our 11 year old nephew arrived for a few months. To say August was crazy was an understatement. Today, I sit down writing having showered, wearing makeup and a sundress. Feeling human again is divine. Last month, reading a novella was a challenge. This morning I dared to pull out 2 Julian Fellowes novels for September 2021.

Early in the summer I attempted a beefy novel on the history of WW 1, but I finally had to set it aside for the time being when things took a very chaotic turn. And I will come back to it when I have more mental energy to really dive into my passion for history. In the meantime, I have fallen back on British fiction. Julian Fellowes is well-known for his Downton Abbey show. He is also an author. And after reading his Belgravia I picked up 2 other books by him and tucked them away for later. Later has come. And because fall is such a colorful time it seems appropriate to read colorful Fellowes’ novels.

Past Imperfect is the first of the two novels selected. Our narrator is contacted by an old enemy from his younger days, Damian Baxter, who is dying and needs help from him to find a potential heir. But will he help his old enemy?

Snobs is the second novel. In this book Lady Uckfield, a society expert, is unconvinced that her son’s betrothed is genuinely in love with him and is after his money and status. To further add fuel to the fire is the arrival of a Hollywood star that seems to solidify Lady Uckfield’s suspicions. Is Edith the real thing or a gold digger?

Fellowes always fills his stories with twists and turns and melodramatics plots, so I have no doubt these will be enjoyable reads for September. And with the weather turning cooler and the days growing shorter, the time is just right to indulge the cozy reads while we watch Mother Nature’s glorious finale before going to sleep for several months. So, grab a Julian Fellowes book and a hot buttered rum and let yourself enjoy fictional high society scandals and secrets. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Happy reading!
