Reading at Hidden Bluff (January 2023), January 2, 2023.

The pile of books on my nightstand continues to grow and is now overflowing to the floor. Some new books are relegated to my office until I get to them. My kindle app is also on a growth spurt. After the heralding of the New Year, January discreetly settles in and whispers in your ear to rest. The days are still busy with work, but the evenings and weekends are now free from the bustle. January feels like a sabbatical month. I have prepared and now piles of books lay around waiting to be indulged in the evening hour.

The used book section on Amazon as well as Thrift Books are proving to be a bit of an addiction. To start the year off The C.S. Lewis Signature Classics arrived, an anthology containing eight books in one. This will be something I slowly digest over the next year as I plan to read a little of it every day. C.S. Lewis was a renowned intellectualist, and I should have read these books a long time ago. These books are an honest discussion on Christianity and life. I have no plans to rush through this and mindfully read it.

And speaking of C.S. Lewis, the Victoria Magazine book club is reading his renowned Chronicles of Narnia this season. So, although I’ve have read these many times, I will happily read them again this month. Therefore, they are my book picks for the month. This book series is among my favorite of the fantasy fiction genre and never gets old. Most are familiar with the adventures of the Pevensie children in a secret world they discover inside a wardrobe. There are seven books in this magical series that has endured in popularity for 75 years now. The child in me never tires of these and was I quite excited for them to be chosen as our book read in our group.

And because I am currently doing my yearly LOTR read there will be no more books for me this month as I attempt to cover all this ground. And plenty of great new material for the months ahead that I am excited about from old favorite authors and new ones. Enjoy the serenity of the winter days.
