Rose Vanilla Loose Tea Recipe
“But indeed I would rather have nothing but tea.”
– Jane Austen, Mansfield Park
Rose Vanilla Loose Tea Recipe, October 13, 2023. The steam from a cup of tea always feels good on the face when the cup is lifted for the first sip. The warmth spreads from the cup to my lips and expands to my cheeks as I gently blow on it to cool it a bit. Sometimes I hold it there and continue to enjoy the warmth longer. There is a romance about tea that isn’t quite there with my beloved coffee. Where drinking coffee feels energetic and socially outgoing, drinking tea feels elegant and socially refined. Tea demands manners. And its taste notes are complex, yet subtle. Tea is ancient having been enjoyed by cultures all the world since the beginning. Drinking tea is the continuation of human civility in the simplest of forms.
Our kitchen has many teas I like to collect as I am always eager to try something new. But the herbalist in me loves to make my own teas as well such as this Rose Vanilla loose tea recipe. Instead of a purely herbal tea this is a flavored black tea using rose extract and vanilla. There is something calming and beautiful about drinking tea with the essence of rose. Most rose teas I have had are rather weak on rose, so admittedly I add more rose to mine. But the beauty of this is you can customize to your taste. The following is my own version of a rose tea which is enhanced with rose extract. It is easy to customize and even try other flavors like rose and orange. The beauty of tea is its diversity. Below I have noted a couple of tips for making and customizing. Enjoy!
Rose Vanilla Loose Tea Recipe

- 1/2 cup Loose, unflavored black tea
- 1/4 cup Dried rose petals (food grade)
- 1/2-1 tsp Rose extract (food grade oil or alcohol-based; not water-based)
- 1 Vanilla bean
Instructions
- Combine the black tea, rose petals, rose extract, and seeds from 2 inches of vanilla bean in a quart-sized food bag. (see notes on rose extract below)
- Shake well.
- Pour tea blend into container for storage.
- Take the 2-inch pod you scraped beans from and place in the loose tea. This will allow the tea to absorb more vanilla.
- Use as you would normally have loose tea.
