Sew a Soft Cube Ornament
Sew a Soft Cube Ornament. November 15, 2023.
Homespun things continue to trend and likely will for some time to come. Personally, I love it and am on full board. So, today I have a homespun tutorial on how to sew a soft cube ornament for your holiday season. These ornaments are adorable keepsake items for your tree, decor, or even as gifts. The 3-inch size cube shown today is perfect for using on a Christmas tree. However, this tutorial easily translates to a larger cube if you want to make large soft cube presents for folk style Christmas decor.
A couple of wonderful things about this project is that it is perfect for repurposing items you may have laying around. For example, do you have fabric scraps sitting in a closet somewhere? Or do you have an old tablecloth or blanket in the Goodwill pile? This is the time to bring out the fabric leftovers. Additionally, if you have an old seat cushion or pillow you can use the stuffing to fill these. I actually didn’t buy one thing to make these. Everything came from the scrap pile. This is a project that is perfect for reusing/repurposing those things around the house that you weren’t quite sure what to do with.

Instructions
- Make a 3.5 square out of cardboard.

- Take a fifth square create an “bottom” to your cube by pinning your strip of cubes all around the square. Take care to match corners when pinning.
- Sew this square on.
- Join the open sides together and sew shut.
- You should now have a box with no top.
- Now pin 3 sides of the last square to the remaining opening on your cube.
- Sew 3 of the sides on.
- Using the unsewn side, turn the cube inside out.
- Fill with the cube form with soft stuffing. I used stuffing from an old chair cushion.
- Pin the remaining opening shut, tucking in raw edges.
- Sew the opening shut.
- Your cube is now complete! Decorate as you wish!
I used simple jute twine and a dried rose bud to accent the cube!
Have a beautiful day!
