Sparkling Fairy Lights Christmas Table, Dec. 18,2022

Earlier this week I hauled out my paper crafting supplies. They had been tucked away for a few years and not in use. Over 28 years of marriage I had collected many nifty paper crafting tools, and no, I am not a scrapbooker. Those tools have produced ornaments, cards, and other items for the home. As I am usually in the garden on sunny days the paper crafting doesn’t tend to happen until winter. The long, cold days inspire dreaming and creativity. I encourage parents to let their little ones spending time dreaming rather than using the electronics. It is amazing to me how creative kids can be apart from their devices. And my inner child decided to make glittering snowflakes this week. Snowflakes inspire wonder this wonder inspired our Christmas table this year- a sparkling fairy lights Christmas table.

In years of hostessing parties, I have found people do not like having their view blocked with large arrangements at the table while dining, so I am paring it down on the tablescape decor. As pretty as the taller arrangements are the lower ones can be equally as pretty. Lower arrangements allow for cozier conversation which is desirable at the holiday table.

So, after the making the glittering snowflakes I wondered exactly how to incorporate this homespun element into a pleasing tablescape. I set them on the table. Hmmmm, back to my office for a sparkling garland. Down the middle of the table that went. Now what? I dug for some gold ribbon in the ribbon scraps basket and tied bows at various places on the garland. Thinking it might be cheesy, I was surprised at how much I liked the effect of the bows.

Okay, my favorite votives came out. The mileage I have gotten out of those votives….Good votives are an essential in the decorating arsenal.

It was clear that I was on to something but realized the best way to make this tablescape really pop was fairy lights. The local craft store had them fortunately. Those fairy lights provided the Wow! factor. It was sparkling and wonder-filled!

The dark days inspired the fairy lights which add a delightful whimsical element to the center. The battery-operated ones were quite inexpensive. I opted for the warm lights with silver wiring (the options are many). The reason I like warm lighting is because Christmas is a warm season by nature. I want the table to feel warm and cozy. The silver wiring added sparkle. Originally, I had purchased green, but it didn’t have the same effect, so those will go back to the store.

Ivory velvet napkins from Amazon are super cheap and add elegant holiday glamour. The ones I purchased are here. My charger plates are also from Amazon and great basics with their French country appeal. My great-grandmother’s China sits on top for the vintage element.

Pinecones dotted in the arrangement add to the winter wonderland theme.

The perfect table to sit around on Christmas night with family and loved ones and sip some Blushing Spiced Holiday Wine!

Have a wonder-filled day!

  1. How could you use the same look/supplies for a round table centerpiece? My daughter wants this for her wedding but the tables are round.

    1. Hi Sarah! So, for a round table you could do a couple of different things. One is to do the garland straight across the round table as seen in the post only your table is round. The other idea is to do the same look, but in a roundish shape above the plates making it a bit like a wreath on the table. If you go with the “round” option you may want to put something in the middle such as a glass compote dish with a floral arrangement or more candles or perhaps a lantern. In any case, either option should work fine. I love the thought of using this for a wedding! Thanks for stopping by! Best, Anna
