Stopping to Smell the June Roses
June is a magical month of perfumed roses, the ripening fruit of lush gardens, and warm, starry nights untouched by a single cloud. The best of Spring and summer marry into a single month as if to celebrate the halfway point of the year. The glorious middle aged sister of New Year’s old man has arrived to help us celebrate. June is a time to sit and admire the world because she’s been busy growing. And June’s sun is a happy bright one, not quite the heavy golden lingering sun of August. Rather, the June sun has a lighter upbeat step that matches the bright colors of the garden. And, if you don’t take time to sit and enjoy June will pass you by in a flash. It is time for stopping to smell the June roses.
These days my husband and I enjoy sitting on our new porch swing. We’ve been without one for a few years until recently when my husband spotted a used swing for $50. He brought it home, and I painted it as well as sewed a cushion with pillows for it. Now we have a nice sitting place to admire June from. The gentle sway of a porch swing is soothing and rhythmic. It is easy to just keep going. I remember how much our son loved his swing as a baby as it would lull him to sleep. Porch swings are for calming us big folks after a long day. So, it is our new evening tradition to sit on our swing with a glass of wine at the day’s end and just soak in the quiet peace of the green forest with the water rushing in the background.
Do you have a special place at home you like to stop and admire the world from? If not, try creating one that inspires you to enjoy June and her beauty!
Hope you make time for stopping to smell the June roses!
