Ingredients

  • 1 14-15 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1 14-15 oz can of stewed tomatoes or tomato puree
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 15 oz can of kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 small onion, chopped (yellow or sweet)
  • 2 tbsps. vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder (or to taste; I used 2-3 tsps.)
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder (or to taste; I used 1/2 tsp.)
  • salt and pepper to taste (I used 1 1/2 tsps. of salt; 1/4 tsp. of pepper)

Instructions

  • Sauté the chopped onion in 2 tbsps. of oil over medium-high heat until translucent. Remove the onions and set aside.
  • In the same pan, brown and crumble the ground beef. Drain the beef and set aside.
  • In a medium pot, add the onions, beef, kidney beans, tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, and the spices.
  • Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover the chili, and simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve with shredded cheddar.
