It is a cheery house that adorns itself with a wreath at Christmas. It shows at least some sort of Christmas spirit even if that is all there is. Some human being inside has taken the time to acknowledge this most joyful holiday.

Wreath Ideas at Hidden Bluff, December 15, 2024. The Christmas wreath has been around roughly as long as the Christmas tree, both dating back to the 16th century in Germany when Christians began adapting them into their traditions. And like the tree, the Christmas wreath has its own spiritual significance as it is representative of the eternal life Jesus offers which has no beginning nor end as does the circle. It is a very comforting thought that there is a God who is the very essence of always. And He will surround us with His always if we invite Him in. So, while we decorate and put up our wreaths we can think of their holy representation of God’s character.
And we do put up lots of wreaths at Hidden Bluff! If I see a spot for a wreath that is an excuse for one more wreath. Over the years I have found some lovely ones that have different looks that also look far more realistic than they used to. Today I wanted to share some of our wreaths as ideas for you.

My favorite look is one that is popular right now and it is the simple wreath, unadorned except for a bow. So minimalistic and yet stands out. Velvet or silk, skinny or wide, printed or plain, there is a lot of character one well-made bow can add to a wreath. This is a great look for a minimalist who also likes a bit of romantic touch.
Traditional wreaths often have fruit on them. Faux sugared fruit with faux roses is very festive and richly adds to the decor. This is a good look for an updated traditional style, especially if you prefer Old English style themes.
You can buy sugared fruit or make your own. I painted faux apples with my go-to triple gloss paint and then sprinkled them with plain clear glitter. I also gave them a spray with triple gloss spray paint after they dried to keep things in place. The crimson apples looked pretty with the faux roses and a milliner’s quality velvet ribbon. Etsy is a great place for milliner’s quality ribbon.
Wreaths can be a mix of greens. I repurposed a eucalyptus wreath from our bedroom and stuck cedar picks and pinecones in it along with dried baby’s breath and apples. Also, wreaths also don’t have to be just red and green. As we have a blue and white decorated kitchen, I am always on the lookout for blue and white chinoiserie style items. This Christmas themed blue and white ribbon I picked up at a small business is perfection as a sash at the bottom of this wreath.
The farmhouse style wreath shown below got a makeover with a ribbon, but I also added some fresh baby’s breath which dries nicely in the wreath. Baby’s Breath also symbolizes the Holy Spirit.

This lovely wreath was a bargain at Joann Fabrics for $21! I loved it so much I went back and got another. It has a wonderful fluffy and realistic look to it! I went simple here to emphasize the wreath itself and tied a fat satin bow on it. Nothing more needed.
