December Book Picks 2021

It is the last month of 2021 and for the first time in a few years I will not make my 52 book goal. That is okay. The last few months have been incredibly stressful; however, it is important to remember that to keep reading is the ultimate goal. The more you read the more you will see changes in your ability to articulate, talk, write, think, etc. which becomes all the more important as we age. Refusing to be discouraged, I plan to plunge ahead into the New Year with my usual 52 book goal. And as we enter the final month some charming and festive books caught my eye to read: one historical, one anthology, and one for some Christmas magic. So, here are December Book Picks 2021.

December Book Picks 2021

The Man Who Invented Christmas: How Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol Rescued His Career and Revived Our Holiday Spirits by Les Standiford.

This fun-looking biography is how the classic book, A Christmas Carol was born and how it changed Christmas for good. Dickens literature was very important to the Victorian era and still remains beloved today. This book explaining the influence of his Christmas Carol story on the flagging Christmas holiday is one I am looking forward to.

Letters From Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien.

To be honest, I am rather appalled at myself for not knowing about this book considering Tolkien wrote my most favorite book ever, Lord of the Rings. That little error will soon be rectified. There is a charming and old world appeal in this collection of letters from Santa and his magical adventures at the North Pole involving a polar bear, elves, and breaking the moon. This child in me is looking forward to this one!

A Vintage Christmas, A Collection of Classic Stories and Poems.

Somehow an anthology of classic holiday stories is always perfect during this season. It is easier to read in short bit and pieces while catching the holiday spirit. And this book features some short stories and poems by favorite authors such as Louisa May Alcott, Mark Twain, L.M. Montgomery, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and more. You can never go wrong with classics at Christmas!
