Calming Lavender & Chamomile Syrup

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled…
John 14:27
Calming Lavender & Chamomile Syrup. August 18, 2026.
Inner peace doesn’t come easily for many women. By God’s design, our minds and even our own bodies were created to nurture and care for those given to us. However, over time, our concerns for others’ well-being can turn into chronic worry and stress, breaking down our bodies and even becoming embedded in our souls. And if the stress and worry are still there when the second half of life arrives, and your children are released into the world, then what? What does this model for our adult kids, if we’re heading into our golden years without having learned what inner peace really is? What confidence does it inspire in others?
True peace and calm are a gift of the Holy Spirit. It isn’t something you talk yourself into. A reprieve from certain duties may give us more time, but it will not give us lasting peace. A day of self-care is a relaxing pleasure and a treat, but its effects are temporary. God’s peace is bestowed on the deep and abiding faith of one who knows they can trust Him. Daily, we must put our worry on the altar before the Lord and let Him redeem us.
You will keep in perfect peace
Isaiah 26:3
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.

But our souls are housed in perishable shells that will fail us at times, which can add to our cares and frustrations. And yet, they are still called temples of the Holy Spirit, and we care for them until our time is called. The Lord gives us many healing plants and flowers that heal and soothe the body’s stresses in many unique ways. Lavender and chamomile are both nervine herbs. This means they help relax our bodies inside, which is helpful if chronic worry has created physical issues and possibly an addiction to our own cortisol. Calming Lavender & Chamomile syrup is not a miracle cure, but it does help our nervous system by aiding in relaxing it.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
This syrup is actually a glycerite. It is made with sweet vegetable glycerine and fresh herbs. You can use the same method to make glycerites with other fresh herbs. Mints also make good glycerites. Try lemon balm for another soothing syrup.
Lavender & Chamomile Syrup

Equipment
- Glass jar with lid
- Blender or stick blender
- cheesecloth
- sieve
- Container for holding sieve
- Small funnel
- Amber colored dropper bottles (I ended up using 1 4oz and 1 2oz bottles as I harvested 6 oz of glycerite when finished)
Ingredients
- 50 g fresh lavender buds
- 50 g fresh chamomile heads
- 200 ml food grade vegetable glycerine
Instructions
- Combine the 50 g of chamomile heads and 50 g of lavender buds in a container for a total weight of 100g.

- Pour the 200 ml of vegetable glycerine into the flower mixture and stir briefly.

- Using either a stick blender or a countertop blender, blend this mixture for about a minute. It is okay if it is still chunky.

- Pour the mixture into a jar with a lid and set aside for 2-3 weeks, stirring once a day.
- Line a strainer with cheesecloth.

- Pour the herb mixture into the cheesecloth.

- Grab the four corners of the cheesecloth together and squeeze the syrup out.

- Set aside your syrup.

- Place a small funnel on an amber dropper bottle I ended up with about 6 oz of syrup, so I needed 1 4-oz and 1 2-oz.

- Pour your syrup into the amber dropper bottles.

- Put the lid on and label. Store in a dark cupboard.

- The dosage for glycerites is generally higher because they aren't as strong as tinctures. Try doubling the dosage: 60 drops, up to 3 times a day.
- Properly made, a glycerite should last 1-2 years.
