Easy Beeswax Candles
Candle sales are up, largely driven by the changes and challenges of our world. SomeTyme Place has seen its own candle sales go up this year as people are looking for simple comfort, ambiance and nostalgia in their lives. With my own love of cottage style living, candles have always been a part of my life. That cheery, small light burning bright for all to see and enjoy. Of course, I buy lots of candles and I also make lots of candles. One of my favorite candles are the rolled beeswax tapers. Rolled Beeswax tapers have a lot of character and charm that belong in any cottage-themed or rustic setting. They are incredibly easy and affordable to make as you will see below while I make easy beeswax candles.
Easy Beeswax Candles
This project is a great way to support your local beekeeping businesses who sell sheets. I usually pay about $2.50 per sheet which gives me two 8-in taper candles plus a little extra for petite candles. They are fun to make and are lovely gifts when simply wrapped.
Materials:
Beeswax sheets
Wicking (you don’t have to use wicking with the metal bottoms)
Exacto knife or similar razor for cutting
Optional tool: hair dryer
For my beeswax tapers I cut the beeswax sheets into pieces 6.5-in wide and 8-in tall.
If needed, trim your wicking to 1-in longer than your candle. For example, if you are making 8-in tall candles then trim your wick to 9-in. Lay your wicking at one end of the sheet.
Begin to curl wax around wick moving from one end to the other. Beeswax sheets are pretty pliable so if there is cracking it is fairly easy to remedy as you go along by pressing and squeezing. However, if the sheet is too brittle then get out a hair dryer and run it over the area for a few seconds.
Keep rolling candle. I like my candles to be nice and tight, so rolling slow and pressing firmly help.
When you get to the end use your fingernail and press end of wax into candle to keep from coming loose.
Wasn’t that easy!
