Peppermint Mocha Latte Mix

Peppermint Mocha Latte Mix. December 14, 2020.
Christmas is fast approaching, and I am so excited! This is my favorite time of year, and spreading the Christmas spirit is definitely part of my mission for the season! Every year, my goal is to create special family baskets, and these baskets usually include a food item. And this year, a special jar of yummy homemade instant peppermint mocha latte mix is in the basket. This easy mix makes a delicious, creamy, rich mocha latte with excellent coffee flavor that isn’t too sweet.

All ingredients are easy to find and will help stretch your holiday budget. Cute jars to hold your mix are inexpensive and easy to find, too. Jars are also reusable, making them excellent for regifting with your own mix or for keeping ingredients in your pantry. These lovely jars with lids were on a great sale at our local store and hold about 3 cups of mix. Dress the jar up with a cute label and ribbon, and you are ready to go!

As a bonus, there is a Dark Chocolate Orange variation of this mix included in the recipe.
Instant Peppermint Mocha Latte Mix

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup instant espresso ( I used Medaglia D'Oro which is here on Amazon, but I also found it locally)
- 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup Non-fat powdered milk
- 1/2 cup Regular powdered creamer
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar (Note: this is adjustable)
- 1 tsp. cornstarch (Note: this helps make the drink smooth and creamy. It is optional.)
- 2 tsp. Vanilla powder *optional
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup Broken/crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Combine the first 8 ingredients in a blender or food processor. I find this makes a smoother mix that does not clump. Stir in the crushed candy canes and put the finished mix into the desired container.
- To make one mocha latte: stir 3 heaping tbsps. into 8 oz. of hot water and mix well. Enjoy!
Notes
For a dark chocolate orange mocha latte variation:
Follow instructions above except:- Replace cocoa with dark chocolate baking cocoa powder (Hershey’s makes this)
- Add 1 tsp. of oil-based orange extract (do not use an extract with water in it)
- Replace 1/2 broken candy canes with 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips

Have a beautiful day with plenty of holiday spirit!

What does the cornstarch do? You have not seen that before.
Hi Pam! The cornstarch adds a creamy and smooth consistency to the drink. You might see cornstarch added to homemade hot chocolate mix recipes for this reason. It is an optional ingredient if you want to leave it out. Best, Anna
