All ingredients are easy to find and will stretch your holiday budget farther. Cute jars to put your mix in are inexpensive and easy to find as well. Jars are also reusable which makes them excellent for regifting with your own mix or for using in your pantry to store ingredients. These lovely jars with lids were on a great sale at our local store and hold about 3 cups of mix. Dress the jar up with a cute label and ribbon and you are ready to go- easy peasy!

As a bonus there is a Dark Chocolate Orange variation of this mix at the end to enjoy as well!

Makes 2 cups of mix. Double or triple as needed.

1/3 cup instant espresso ( I used Medaglia D’Oro which is here on Amazon, but I also found it locally)

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup non-fat powdered milk

1/2 cup regular powdered creamer

3/4 cup powdered sugar (Note: this is adjustable)

1 tsp. of cornstarch (Note: this helps make the drink smooth and creamy. It is optional.)

2 tsp. vanilla powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 cup broken/crushed candy canes

Combine first 8 ingredients in a blender or food processor. I find this makes a smoother mix that does not clump. Stir in the crushed candy canes and put into desired container.

Add 1 tsp. of oil-based orange extract (do not use an extract with water in it)

Replace 1/2 broken candy canes with 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips

Have a beautiful day with plenty of holiday spirit!

    1. Hi Pam! The cornstarch adds a creamy and smooth consistency to the drink. You might see cornstarch added to homemade hot chocolate mix recipes for this reason. It is an optional ingredient if you want to leave it out. Best, Anna
