Spring Cleaning Checklist (with free printable)

Anne, left alone in her glory, worked with a will. The floor was swept, the beds made, the hens fed, the muslin dress washed and hung out on the line.

Spring Cleaning Checklist. March 6, 2026. When the world is reborn again, it is time to swing open the doors and invite the fresh green air of Spring into our homes and sweep away the cobwebs of winter. Nature’s annual rebirth always inspires a frenzy of yearly chores, and afterwards, I sit back and bask in the virtuous glow of cleanliness. The sparkling-clean home is almost a spiritual experience upon completion, which is perhaps why it is a tradition among so many homemakers.

My list of Spring cleaning tasks at this stage of life has become pretty specific, with room for some variation depending on the circumstances. The jobs listed below are things I take care of in both Spring and Fall, with a few differences. At the end, you’ll find a free printable blank list you can customize based on the suggested jobs below. Print out your list and fill it out with the jobs you want to complete for your Spring cleaning session. The tasks are organized in room-specific categories with a miscellaneous category of tasks that apply to all rooms.
Kitchen
- Clean out/organize the pantry and cupboards
- Wipe down the greasy buildup on all surfaces and walls with a degreasing spray (a spray bottle with hot water and a couple drops of Dawn should do the trick)
- Deep clean the dishwasher by placing 2 cups of vinegar in a bowl on the bottom rack of the dishwasher and then run a cycle (no detergent).
- Clean out the refrigerator and freezer. Throw out old food and wipe down. Defrost the freezer if needed to remove ice buildup.
- Run a self-clean cycle on the oven.
- See the miscellaneous section below.
Living Room
- Wash any slipcovers.
- Dust any art or decor.
- See the miscellaneous section below.
Bedrooms
- Clean Closets.
- Flip the mattress.
- Clean under the bed or other furniture if needed.
- See the miscellaneous section below.
Bathrooms
- Wipe down the mildew buildup on the walls with a bleach spray (a 16-oz spray bottle of hot water, 2 tsps. of bleach, and a couple drops of Dawn should do the trick).
- Organize and wipe out the drawers and cabinets.
- Wash or replace the shower curtain liner. I wash mine with bleach and a towel or two, then hang it up when the cycle is done (don’t put the liner in the dryer).
- Deep clean the shower area.
- See the miscellaneous section below.
Storage Areas
- Air out.
- Organize containers and boxes if needed.
- Check contents for issues such as bugs or pests.
- Dust area.
- See the miscellaneous section below.
Miscellaneous (applies to all rooms)
- Wash windows (see this post for homemade window wash).
- Deep clean the floors and/or rugs.
- Dust walls, ceilings, and light fixtures.
- Wipe down mini-blinds and/or wash curtains (if the fabric type allows for it).
- Air out the house. I throw open the back door and open windows for a couple of hours on a nice day to refresh the house. It feels great!
