Last week at the farmers’ market I mentioned to a couple of vendor friends next to me that a hot buttered rum sounded good. The temperatures had dropped to record lows for this time of year, and it was a very chilly morning setting up that day. The hot buttered rum was wishful thinking on my part as we all shivered waiting for the customers to come. However, one of my vendor friends said there was a new guy there who was selling them. He walked right down and ordered us some hot buttered rums. They were delicious. Holding that hot drink between my icy hands was a treat on an unusually chilly morning. We chatted while sipping that hot and creamy drink while comparing hot, buttered rum recipes. Today, I am sharing my creamy spicy hot buttered rum recipe with you.

Hot Buttered Rum Recipe

One of the best parts of this recipe is that it’s hard to mess it up-really. Hot buttered rums have to be one of the most forgiving recipes out there. All you are doing is mixing butter, sugar, and spices, so it really is up to you how much you want of each. If you want to leave a particular spice out, then do so. However, leaving the butter, sugar, or rum out is not going to work. Those are the key ingredients!

Hot Buttered Rum Recipe

The drink batter can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for a few months, making it an easy go to for a delicious, hot drink. Also, you can easily double or triple the recipe for a crowd. And while this drink is great in the holiday season it is even better when those winter chill of January sets in. Imagine having a cozy moment with a hot buttered rum while watching it snow outside. Creamy Spicy Hot Buttered Rum

An easy, delicious, and spicy hot buttered rum recipe for those chilly nights!

Ingredients

Hot Butter Rum Batter (makes approximately 1.5 cups of batter)

  • 8 oz good quality butter such as European-style or use regular butter (salted kind) (approximately 1 cup)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cardamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves

Hot Butter Rum Drink (1 drink)

  • 3-4 tbsps. spiced rum (depending on how rummy you want it)
  • 1-2 heaping tbsps. rum drink batter
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 heaping cup homemade whipped cream
  • 1 cinnamon stick optional
  • extra spices for garnish optional

Instructions

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

  • Whip butter.
  • Add remaining ingredients and whip until well blended.
  • Use immediately or store in fridge.

Hot Buttered Rum Drink

  • Put rum and drink batter in heat proof mug or glass.
  • Add boiling water.
  • Stir drink until batter is melted.
  • Top with heaping 1/4 cup of whipped cream and garnish.
  • Serve and enjoy!
