The French 75: A Bridgerton-worthy Cocktail

I just finished the Bridgerton book, “The Duke and I”, one of the book picks for this month. Now the mood for Regency-inspired items has hit. When Jane Austen wrote her books, I doubt she foresaw the Regency subculture that would come from her writings. They have inspired generations of women with their old fashioned glamour. While I won’t be dawning a period dress to go about my day it is fun to incorporate some Regency flair in small ways. Fancy cocktails are always a win and today’s vintage cocktail is no exception: the French 75: A Bridgerton-worthy Cocktail.

And what is a French 75? This post-Edwardian era cocktail is a simple concoction of gin, champagne, lemon juice, and simple syrup. The result is a light, sparkling drink that is just right for sipping at an afternoon garden party while standing amongst the roses in your floral sundress. Or perhaps serve them while binge watching Downton Abbey with friends. For myself I am thinking it will be my new drink when watching “Pride and Prejudice” (the Keira Knightly version)- yes, I know that statement is controversial!

These are really simple to make. The French 75s pictured below have been garnished with candied lemon slices, but pansies or other edible flowers would also be a lovely garnish. Be creative!
