Wild Blueberry Lilac Cocktail

Wild Blueberry Lilac Cocktail. April 27, 2026.

It’s April, and the lilacs are blooming. The Beauty of Moscow in our yard is a fluffy mass of the palest lavender blush. Its sweet scent carries through the yard, inviting one to come close, bury their nose in the soft panicles, and think lovely thoughts. The bush is purposely planted near the deck so that any who are sitting there will be able to enjoy this Springtime perfume. While we have several other lilacs, the Beauty of Moscow is considered one of the sweetest-smelling of lilacs, and I have to concur. For this reason, I use only this lilac for this syrup, which I make only once a year.

Wild Blueberry Lilac Cocktail

I thought wild blueberries might pair well with lilac in a drink. The blueberries’ flavor seemed gentle enough to allow the lilac’s essence to come through. So I created this little Wild Blueberry Cocktail. As I thought, the two did pair well in this sweet Springtime cocktail. If you are adventurous, give it a try!

Wild Blueberry Lilac Cocktail

A sweet, floral Spring cocktail! No need to use expensive champagne for this. I buy an inexpensive champagne for this.

Ingredients

Wild Blueberry Lilac Cocktail

  • 2 tbsps. lilac syrup (recipe here)
  • 1 tbsp. wild blueberry juice (see below to make)
  • 2-3 oz. chilled champagne (use an inexpensive brand)
  • clean lilac blossoms (optional, but pretty)

Wild Blueberry Juice

  • 2 cups frozen wild blueberries that have been thawed (regular frozen fine too)

Instructions

Make Wild Blueberry Juice

  • Mash the thawed blueberries and put them in a sieve.
  • Allow the juice to drain. Use a spoon to help push the juice through.
  • Another way is to put mashed berries in triple-layered cheesecloth and squeeze out the juice.
  • This should yield around 1/2 cup of juice.
  • Compost the remaining pulp or use it for something else.

Make Cocktail (1 cocktail)

  • Add lilac syrup and blueberry juice to a coupe glass.
  • Top with 2-3 oz of champagne.
  • Give the cocktail a bit of a stir and garnish with clean lilac blossoms if desired.
  • Serve.
